How I Learned to Lock the Door
I found Spirit Release work in a really roundabout way.
In my experience, many people who find this work come to it because they are mediums, hypnotherapists, or energy workers who’ve come up against some really negative things and they want to learn how to remove or prevent these things from interfering with their work and their clients.
I, however, was none of those things.
I’d always had an interest in the paranormal. The mysteries of the unknown and unseen drew my attention more than anything else. I was glued to Unsolved Mysteries, Night Gallery, and The Outer Limits as a kid and I wanted more than anything to see a real ghost or have an alien encounter. I always felt these things were real, and I was far more curious than fearful.
As an adult, this curiosity led me down many paths, some very dark and dubious.
I fearlessly tread through haunted houses and sinister-feeling locations, actively inviting whatever was out there to engage with me. I genuinely wanted to see or experience something in those places just so I could know for certain if it was real or not. I wanted evidence, and I wanted the personal knowing that comes from a lived experience. I dabbled in some shadowy, occult practices without really understanding what they were. Was I afraid? A little. But I’d always been a risk-taker and feeling a little afraid was a thrilling, dopamine rush for me. I wasn’t worried about consequences. I had an inordinate amount of faith in my own resilience and my ability to intellectualize my way out of predicaments.
What I didn’t understand back then was that there is much in the unseen world that you can’t think your way around, and that I certainly didn’t need to do any of that foolhardy ghost-hunting to have an experience of the paranormal. I truly didn’t realize how unsafe my exploratory behavior was.
Makes me think of Nietzsche’s “And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”
Eventually I became that librarian who has an interest in all things spiritual, paranormal, unexplained, and downright eerie. I had a little bit of information about a lot of things. When I started doing archival work for MUFON, (the largest civilian UFO investigation organization in the world) I came across the works of Dolores Cannon, a regression hypnotherapist who documented thousands of cases of human/alien interactions,. I immediately devoured almost all of her books (she wrote 17!). This was a turning point for me because it’s where I connected the dots between hypnosis, channeling, ETs and ghosts (I no longer call them that, by the way, I now understand them to be Earthbound spirits). It’s also when I realized that a wealth of evidence and information about these topics already existed. It just doesn’t lend itself well to the typical and systematic approach of the scientific method of investigation. Of course this was by no means new information, but it was new to me, and it led me down a very different path.
One day I happened to listen to a live interview with Andy Porter and Jonno Webster, two psychic surgeons who had taken and existing model of theraputic treatment of patients of Spirit Release Therapy and built their own research-backed, structured approach to removing negative entities from people with Spirit-Guided Remote Spirit Release. I listened to these two men describe what led them to this work and I was hooked. I knew right away this was something I needed to learn more about, and that it was no accident I’d found them. I felt a deep connection to these two strangers that I couldn’t explain, other than to say they felt like soul family.
So I booked a clearing session with Jonno.
And that is where this story actually starts.
It was phenomenal. Some physical things I’d been carrying cleared up, things I had no idea were connected to any of this. I felt like an enormous weight had been lifted off me.
And something happened that I wasn’t expecting. Before the clearing, I felt pretty fine. At least that’s what I thought. I wouldn’t have told you I’d been sad, or depressed, or anxious. It wasn’t until afterward, when I felt this utter joy and bliss and peace, that I understood I’d been walking around in that heavy state for a very long time. I thought it was just normal to feel the way I was before. Sure, I might’ve been tired. Feeling my age. But I wouldn’t have told you I was miserable. I would have told you I was fine. The difference was unbelievable.
I think a lot of people are walking around exactly like that right now. Not realizing that our natural state is joyful and peaceful and full of love, because either they’ve never felt the difference, or it has been so long since they felt that way, that they’ve forgotten.
I was walking in the clouds for weeks. My coworkers couldn’t believe the difference in me. They had been watching and waiting as my appointment time drew near. We all were curious. I was the guinea pig. It makes me laugh to remember this, but one of my coworkers saw me walk in to work, took one look at me, and booked a clearing. She said she may have been doubtful before, but now she knew it was real. She ended up having a very different experience, by the way. That happens, because people are all very different. Nevertheless she came back to work recommending sessions to everyone she knew.
Another thing happened to me with the clearing. My senses heightened and my intuition greatly increased. Now that I was fully me, and not being influenced or held down by negativity, my psychic abilities started to blossom. I remember in my first report I had all kinds of implants and devices, meant to suppress me and keep me ungrounded and disconnected. And they were doing their job. But now that I was clear, I could start to tell when something was off.
So I knew what my baseline clear felt like, and I realized I also knew the moment I lost it. I woke up one day and I felt weighted down again. The joy wasn’t there and I was having thoughts like, maybe I’m just tired, and maybe that joy wasn’t sustainable. Maybe we’re just supposed to go back to feeling ‘normal’ after a while. Surely there wasn’t anything wrong. I was just tired. And then it dawned on me. I wasn’t sovereign anymore. Those thoughts were the whispers of something negative in my ear. And I panicked, because now that I knew exactly what it was, and there was no way on earth I was going back to feeling the way I’d felt before, back when I would have told you I was fine.
So I ordered another clearing. And the bliss came back. And the negative thoughts went away. I was light again. I felt free and happy.
This time, I was going to make sure to maintain my sovereignty. What I mean is, along with my clearing session, I was given a report afterward detailing not only what was removed and what was repaired, but it also had suggestions for how to maintain my newfound sovereignty moving forward. I didn’t pay close enough attention to those suggestions after the first clearing. But now after the second one, I was really going to do everything Jonno recommended. And I did. For a while.
And then a few weeks later I wasn’t sovereign again.
This time what happened was frightening. I was having a nightmare that I was outside this dark and decrepit house, with a yard overgrown with weeds, and this awful, horrendous-looking witch was making me gather these weeds and eat them. I had no will of my own and I was like a zombie, gathering and eating them in a daze, and in a moment of clarity, I looked down at what I had been eating and they were these poisonous plants. She was cackling and screaming. I woke up horrified and ill. Pains in my head and stomach. I knew it was a psychic attack. I felt it clearly. That witch wasn’t a dream. She was what had gotten in.
I booked another clearing.
This was a pattern that went on for about a year.
I bounced back and forth between Andy and Jonno ordering clearings, because I was too embarrassed to keep going back to the same person every single month. It got expensive. I genuinely could not afford to be doing this, and I also could not imagine living without it. The thought of having something attached to me, influencing me, siphoning my energy, made me sick. It made me panic.
So you might be wondering why, if every clearing comes with a list of recommendations, daily practices, protections, meditations, and all the things you can do to keep yourself sovereign, why did I keep getting attacked and compromised. I did those things. Sometimes. I didn’t do them consistently. Here’s the honest reason, which took me a long time to admit. I didn’t believe I was powerful enough to do this myself. I thought I needed somebody else to do it for me. Even doing the simple daily exercises, I felt like an imposter. Like I was just going through the motions and none of it was really mine. I would do them, but I didn’t believe in myself or my abilities. Only psychic mediums and powerful shamans had the ability to clear someone and keep them clear. Not me.
Then I took a beginner psychic protection course from Andy.
It was good stuff. Some of it I already knew from having so many clearings. But there was a lot I didn’t. At one point Andy trance channeled his spirit guide Chen for students to ask him questions. What Chen told me about my own energy field is something I have never forgotten.
Picture a street at night, with houses all down both sides. All of my neighbors’ houses are shut up and locked down for the night. Mine has every light blazing, every window wide open, and the front door standing open too. Warm and bright and welcoming, and anybody at all can walk in and out as they please.
That’s what my energy field looked like. That’s what anything cruising past was seeing. Completely unprotected and ripe for the taking.
That visual horrified me enough to actually change my behavior. I locked down. I did my protections consistently, and if I missed a day I just doubled back around and kept going. And what I discovered was that I was being compromised far less often.
It was working.
And something Andy told me was that the more we practice, the better we become. As with anything. These protections and visualizations I was doing were gaining clarity, momentum, and power. And I could feel it. I could even start to see parts of it in my third eye.
Andy and Jonno founded the Spirit Release Academy to teach Remote Spirit Release, but the courses were all in-person, and I would’ve had to book a trip to the UK for a week to learn this stuff. That was most definitely out of my budget and ability. I watched with a mixture of joy and envy on social media at all the people going through the coursework. But they did eventually take the classes online. And once they opened up a payment plan, I was there. That was all I needed. Take my money please.
And I want to be honest about why I was there. I wanted to learn to keep myself clear, and keep my family clear, and help the people I loved who needed it. If for no other reason at all, I was doing it so I would not have to keep buying clearings.
I think that’s a perfectly valid reason to learn something.
I started out as a person who walked into dark places on purpose, daring something to notice me. Every light on, every door wide open.
These days I know how to lock the door.
